Men’s Health Week.

I’m taking strides to save men’s lives.

Prostate cancer is Australia’s most commonly diagnosed cancer. 1 in 5 men are likely to be diagnosed in their lifetime. My Graham was diagnosed with an aggressive advanced prostate cancer last October with no enlargement or previous symptoms, just very high PSA.

That’s why, this Men’s Health Week, I’m making every step count.

Will you donate today and help fund new research to detect and defeat prostate cancer?

My Updates

Beating the pain

Monday 23rd Jun
12/6 Hospice in Melbourne, 3rd attempt to try to manage pain. 19/6 Off to St V's, let's try radiotherapy to reduce cancerous lymph mass in pelvis to reduce pain.  Unable to lie flat due to back pain that might just be because of various back injuries in his building/plumbing life.  Nerve block, no, can't lie long enough, so epidural given today.  Measure up tomorrow & then Radiation ASAP. Fingers X'd!

K$389+ raised

Tuesday 17th Jun
There's still time to donate to this, so proud to have been part of something that will help our men in the future, my bowling mates, my cousin's partners, sons, nephews.  Cheers everyone.

Thank you

Monday 16th Jun
This is the first time I've got behind something in ages! You helped me achieve my original target X 8!
I still urge every male in my life to ask for numbers when they have their PSA tested, it's just a blood test.  If it's less than 3, great.  But if it's higher or you have pee issues get a referral to a Urologist. And don't wait! X

Thank you!

Sunday 15th Jun
We live in a small country town, a community.  So many people have reached out to us since Graham became ill - thank you all.  Graham was a big friendly plumber who is now very unwell and this cancer has really knocked him around!
I hope we can raise a few more $ today!

8 months after diagnosis

Friday 13th Jun
Thanks to those who have supported my efforts!  The cause is so important now I'm so aware of how easy this condition was to miss.
Jonesy is presently at Caritas Christi in Kew, this is a Hospice but they are trying to get him through another pain crisis and give some quality of life. X

Diagnosis

The 7 Months after diagnosis

Friday 30th May
Mid October - diagnosis of Advanced Prostate Cancer at St Vincents Melbourne which has mutated and invaded lymphatic system, Graham started on testosterone blocker and an alternative chemo tablet to work on hormones. PSMA Pet Scan shows extent of lymph nodes involved. Kidney stent put in because R Ureter (tube to bladder) is being crushed by lymph nodes.
Nov' 24 First review with local Oncology team and PSA is down to 1.5. Yay, no IV Chemo at this point!  Dec 24 PSA is 0.48.  March 25 PSA is back up to 1.5.  This can happen, but he's now in pain again.
April - pain getting worse, short hospital stay to try to get on top of pain, finally Graham is sleeping thru' the night for the first time since June 2024!
May scans show liver involvement , MRI shows nothing in bones - time to start IV Chemo, the tablet has not been successful for Graham.

Our story

Thursday 29th May
Hubby of 33 years, Graham was tired for 2 years, but PSA of 3.5 didn't alert Dr to follow up, no other symptoms!  May 24, PSA 33. Referred UROLOGIST who was away 4 weeks, then we got on plane to visit UK son & family & our world exploded. He had terrible back pain. Home again, prostate investigations start with oedema & hydroceles and back pain thrown in.
4 months later 2nd opinion sought and straight into hospital where he was diagnosed with advanced PC, via biopsy of neck lymph gland! Aggressive, and rare for whole lymph system to be involved, we're told.
