Men’s Health Week.
I’m making strides in the fight to save lives.
Prostate cancer is Australia’s most commonly diagnosed cancer, with 1 in 5 men likely to be diagnosed by the age of 85. Unfortunately, our dad was one of those 1 in 5.
This Men’s Health Week, we are making every step count and walking for our dad, Graeme Black — “Blackie” — and for all men and families battling this disease.
Dad’s journey started in September 2014 when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Thankfully, it was found early, and by November 2014 he had his prostate removed and was clear for two years. Sadly, his PSA levels later started rising again. After further testing, more lesions were found, which were treated with CyberKnife and chemotherapy.
Dad fought hard and was clear again until early 2023, when his PSA rose once more. After many ups and downs, he sadly lost his long battle in November 2025.
Dad never gave up, and we are so proud of him.
So this year, I’m walking for him — and for every family facing prostate cancer.
Please donate today and help fund vital research to detect, treat and defeat prostate cancer. I’ve set my fundraising goal at $752 because after Dad’s passing we set up an “In Memory” fundraiser and, thanks to everyone’s generosity, we raised $1,748 for prostate cancer research and to help others battling this disease. This year, I’d love to round that total up to $2,500 in memory of Dad.
