Men’s Health Week.

Hopeful PC Steps

In 2022 my partner Rob, then 63yo, unusually went to see a GP (albeit for a suspected kidney stone). Within a week we knew that the actual cause of his back pain and traces of blood in his urine, was Stage 4 Prostate Cancer. Surgery was not an option.

Rob has had intensive radiation therapy and takes hormones daily. He has benefited from trial treatment, which has successfully slowed any cancer spread. So, while incurable, Rob's condition is proving to be very manageable. There are considerable side effects from the hormones but the disease hasn't interfered too much with Rob's life.

Prostate cancer is Australia’s most commonly diagnosed cancer. 1 in 5 men are likely to be diagnosed in their lifetime.

This Men’s Health Week, I’m pledging to walk 42km and hope your donations will not only keep me accountable, but help fund new research to detect and defeat prostate cancer.

More importantly, please get screened, or tell the men in your life, to prevent becoming another statistic.

5km in the bank

Monday 9th Jun
Took the very big block on today's debut walk. Mercifully the rain stopped for the occasion and it was surprisingly invigorating. Rob tagged along in his plastic poncho. The podcast was about kickass Gen X women.
