I’m taking strides to save men’s lives.

This fundraiser, planned for Men's Health Week in June 2025 will once more help raise awareness of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is not a "old man's" disease it can and does affect young fit men.

Like all types of cancers the impact of such a diagnosis is felt by family members and close friends who share the ups and downs of such a journey.

As for my personal journey, I am a  father of 9 children happily married for almost 35 years now.

Diagnosed with with aggressive locally advanced prostate cancer, Gleason Score of 9. I initially underwent 40 sessions of radiotherapy in 2020 at the Gold Coast University Hospital ICON Cancer Centre. Due to COVID it was a lonely time, however the staff there were all amazing.

In conjunction with the radiotherapy  I received around 18 months of hormone therapy (Zoladex). When I got to ring the bell I had hoped that was the end of my cancer journey. 

Sadly that has not been the case as recently the cancer has re-emerged and again requires specialist treatment. Fortunately for me regular PSA monitoring caught this relapse very promptly and once more I am being being treated with dual hormone therapy, as my disease is incurable.

Some of the side effects of my current medical regime are fatigue and brain fog. I'm hoping that by undertaking this walking challenge it will not only help improve my mental health but also my physical fitness and stamina.

My goals aren't huge but any positive steps are to be embraced. Any support will mean a huge amount to me and help those who suffer with this type of cancer.

Support may just be liking or sharing my post, or more importantly begins a discussion with your significant other, which could help save their life.

However proceeds from donations will help further research into Prostate Cancer, who knows one day it may even be curable. #WalkforHim
